THE ETERNAL DRIFT : FINDING YOUR CREATIVE ROOTS!
Creativity is such a lofty idea. I remember being six years old, and my biggest creative task was finding a way to watch Cartoon Network when my mum went to bed. Fast-forward twenty years, and I believe not much has changed in the way we define creativity as a concept.
The whole purpose is to be able to wrap your head around a task, a goal, etc., something concrete that you can achieve. The way to get there is ever more varied than we initially thought. What do we know about creativity?
First off, creativity isn't just for artists, musicians, and the guy who invented the spork (seriously, give that genius a medal). It's a universal skill, like knowing that the bread goes on the outside of the sandwich and not in the toaster. We've all got it, even if some of us hide it better than others (looking at you, girl who still can't figure out IKEA furniture).
In essence, creativity is about thinking outside the box. Or, if it’s your cat think inside the box, the shoebox, the laundry basket, or any other container that looks like it could fit you. It's finding new solutions to old problems, like finally realizing that if you mix enough ketchup with anything, it becomes edible.
Studies show that creativity can be nurtured and developed, which is great news for those of us who were told as kids that colouring outside the lines was a bad thing. Now we know it was just practice for becoming the next Picasso or at least someone who can create a meme that goes viral.
Interestingly, creativity isn't just about those big "Eureka!" moments (though they are pretty satisfying). It's also about the little moments of inspiration. It's those everyday sparks that keep life interesting and keep us from losing our minds in the monotony of daily routines.
So, the next time you're faced with a challenge, remember that creativity is your best tool. Whether you're figuring out how to convince your boss that "casual Friday" should include pyjamas or coming up with a way to explain why you need a nap after lunch (power nap, anyone?), let your creativity run wild.
After all, if a six-year-old can outsmart their mom for some late-night cartoons, there's hope for us all.
Stay creative, folks, and remember: the only limit is your imagination (and maybe your internet bandwidth).
I’ll be posting about creativity monthly to keep you inspired, and you can sign up to receive updates at the bottom of the page :)
P.S. My first single will be out this December!
